What surprised you- Not much really.
shocked you- Nothing.
upset you- Erm, the way Pecola felt? Her racist tendancies, and the others on both sides.
made you angry- ^

Would you recommend the book? I guess I would, not a fan of books but if someone asked for a nice book that explored this type of content, then sure.
Did you enjoy it? ... It's a book. :(

OK
What surprised me: the way that cholly's child hood played out. I thought he was just a drunk that tried to burn down the house but behind all of that was a hurt little boy.

What shocked me: Nothing...........

What upset me:exactly what jamar said pecola's racist tendecy's made me want to choke her.

I would recomend this book because it really makes you re-evaluate how you thought about things. Especially for young black girls who always wanted that white baby doll with BLUE EYES. This is really a good book
=)

what surprised me was how Pecola ended up having blu eyes. or so she thought. she went crazy because of her life and what she went through that it caused her to beleive she possessed blue eyes.i am happy that she believes this because now she can rest easy knowing she has a white peoples trait.
what shocked me was how soaphead church loved loving girls because they were the most cleanest of humans. i never thought of it that way i guess. also i was shocked by him giving little girls ice cream to keep them content so that he can play betweem their legs. that was a scary thought.
I wasnt really upset by anything in the story.every part had me interested.
i would deffinatly recommend the book.especially to the people of this day in age because of their perception of beauty and how the media pushes it on us.
YESS i did enjoy the book.
thanks for picking a great book ms.Russ

So the book was badass. I mean, come on. Incest, 11 year old goes insane, and racism. What more do you want.
I cant say i was shocked by anything. I was expecting everything to play out in some chaotic way. The part that upset me is the afterword. From what I understood, Morrison wrote the book for other reasons besides captivating an audience that would pity Pecola. It annoys me because I'm surprised that people dont look at the bigger picture, message, whatever. The book is not supposed to make you think "oh i feel so bad for this fictional character." You should all read the afterword.

What surprised me in The Bluest eye was that Pecola's father had raped his own daughter. I didn't find anything that really shocked me, but what upset me was the way they described how ugly pecola was. Nobody does not want to be near her and many everybody is always disgusted whenever she shows her face in public. What made me angry is that pecola believes having blue eyes is the only thing that can make people feel beautiful. I would recommend this book if someone is always relying on how to be perfect. Nobody is perfect. This book is a good book.

What surprised me was that Pecolas life was a real tragedy i thought that she would get better by in everyone else eyes she was messed up. Nothing really shocked me about this book. What upset me was that every made there lives better off of Pecola. I would recommend the book but i think most people have read the book.

What surprised me was how badly damaged pecola was in the end and the fact that no one realized that it was all of their faults. cholly breedlove's life was a shocker because for someone who is as terrible as he was you would think that he was hurt but i never imagined that the hurt was as bad as it was which caused his life to be a wreck after that it was also shocking to see what he did to pecola which was his own child but yet that was the only way he knew to love her that was also something that upset me because i didn't know how to feel about it .. its saddening that he was the only person who loved her enough to do that but upsetting to see him do that.
If i had to recommend this book to someone i would because it was an excellent book .. it had so many different topics that were actually brought to light and it may possible help people look at society differently and it may help people realize the things that they do are hurtlful
I LOVEDDDDDDD THIS BOOK!!!!

I didn't exactly express much emotion towards the book, except i gained more of an understanding. I didn't exactly know a thing of what it must have been like for people growing up in those days, but now i understand more of it, and know now that the human mind really hasn't even changed much though the years. I'm not sure if i'd recommend it it, seeing as a lot of people i meet cannot even comprehend literature, but anyone who would like to understand psychology, and history, it would be a pretty good choice.

The Bluest Eye-

Nothing in the book really surprised me that much. what really shocked me was at the ending of the book, we read that Pecola is talking to herself in the mirror about having the bluest eye. I am shock from this because earning the Blue eye has made her insane and that fact that it has scared me at the same time. What upsets me is that Claudia and Frieda wants to help Pecola in which that is cool but it made me know that their help is not gonna be that successful.

With this book...I would definitely recommend this book to a friend and other classmates. If I was an English teacher, I sure would let my students read this book. I think The Bluest Eye has a good moral to it and it can make the students think differently about something or someone.

i was angry when Cholly took his daughters virginity the first time and then had the nerve to have sex with her again for the second time and get her pregnant. i was in such disgust because it upsets a women as she grows older. this will be an unforgettable memory that stays with her for years. yes of course i will recommend this book only to someone who understands it so they can get the concept and understand whats happening in the book clearly.

@ Diana.
Pecola never gained the eyes, she just believes she has, and that's what brought her to that state.

What surprised you- I was surprised by Pauline Breedloves perspective on life. She was really happy with her job but didn't want her family to feel the same. She pretty much despised them.

Shocked you- I was shocked at the rawness of the book. A lot of the things in it truly made my stomach turn. For example, the scene where Soaphead described his fixation on little girls breasts definitely made my skin crawl.

Upset you- I was upset at the fact that things like this still happen today. Society makes females everywhere feel inadequate in every way and it's sad and disappointing.

Made you angry- Nothing really.

Would you recommend the book? I would recommend the book to a friend who was having self-esteem issues because it would help them understand how their self-hatred is slowly but surely destroying them.

Did you enjoy it? I did enjoy the book even though it went a bit slow.

Ummmm there was one thing that surprised me. That was Pauline and Cholly's fight. Other than that nothing surprised me because the book had so much foreshadowing.

The part that upset me was when Pauline beat Pecola so bad for dropping the pie(i think) by accident. If I was Pecola I would have fought my mother back. She could have helped Pecola clean up the mess. Its bad enough Pecola burned herself by dropping it when it was already hot.

I would recommend the book to let readers view how society teaches people. This book could definitely be applied to today's society also.

What got me angry was how Pecola's father raped her. that still blows my mind cuz like thats your own flesh and blood. So because he was drunk and thought that pecola was his wife makes me shake my head at society today because there are so many pecola's out in the world today.
