Just to start things off i feel as though her portrayl that she has of men are fair. based upon the things she went through and how men have treated her...it is only fair that she feels this way
i totally agree with Mellisa. I feel that the depiction of men in this novel is fair. Most of the men we encountered throughout the novel has some way or another shown a negative aspect in their life that made her portayl of them a fair one.
The way the women in The Bluest Eye treat men seems to be unfair because not all men are horrible people.
But, you cannot blame this maltreatment on these woman. this is because every man they they had ever encounter in Toni Morrisons story had been either disrespectful, ignorant, or inhumane.
Cholly went to find his father. His father looked at him and didnt even ecknowledge that Cholly could be his son.All he cared about what was winning money in "craps". He could care less about the seeds he planted in women and being there for his children.
Cholly rapes his daughter. Maltreats his wife. comes home drunk. Had sex with his wife before she is even concious of it.
There was a man staying at Claudia and Friedas house. this man violated Friedas innocence and brung random women to there home to have sex with.
All three of these men are disgusting. NO WONDER why almost everyone in the books hates men or treats them unfairly. i would do the same.
I disagree with eloise 100%
That's all
Melissa has a good point. The men presented to us in this novel are disgusting people who we cannot help but hate. I don't get what your disagreeing with Melissa, Eloise basically supported your statement.
I agree to both Melissa's and Eloise's statement. The thing with Cholly's encounter with Fuller can show the treatment of fair or unfairness. Sure we can hate the men in the novel but you cannot help but to blame for what deeds they have done. I think this portrays that 1 out of every 10 men would have this kind of aspect in their life in which people cannot help but to say that they are disgusting.
P.S.
I was half asleep so i have nooo clue what I'm saying...lol....
i agree with Eloise & Melissa's statement. They all experienced many bad times with men and the way men are interpreted in the novel " The Bluest Eye" is as if they all are losers. & all men aren't horrible as well because there are plenty of good ones that don't come across everyone eyes.
ummm typo lol i do agree with what eloise said....thanks Guillermo for pointing that out =)
I agree with Melissa and Eloise statement. I do believe that their portrayal of men is based on what they have gone through with them. So it is fair. Cholly and Mr. Henry are very disgusting men who have no respect for women and themselves in the novel. Pauline gets treated with disrespect by Cholly; the man she loves and the man she married. Why should her husband have to treat her that way? Its only fair that she feels the way she does about him.
YOUR WELCOME MELISSA =D lol
*you're
MS. RUSS!!! PLEASE POST A NEW TOPIC!!!! THANNXXXX
This isn't exactly something easy to say. I mean, the men in the story are basically antagonists. If they were to represent Men as a whole, then it is not fair, and I heavily disagree with the portrayal.
As a story, the view of the few men alone is fair from the main character's point of view. However, as we've seen, there's other sides to each story.
But to get down to it, I agree with Eloise when she says the men in the book is rather disgusting, or unpleasant. However, I do not think it's a fair portrayal of men.
Gotta stick to the question.
I find it pretty fair.
The men weren't viewed as 100% bad people. Take Mr. Henry for instance, the girls loved him when they first met, but he merely had his single bad trait. Mr. Mactire was presented well also, only he has his violent tendencies. All the girls had their own issues about themselves as well, so it's pretty well balanced in my opinion.
When reading the bluest eye .. ive noticed that men arent viewwed as bad people or anything so i would have to agree with Mike on that part. There are only certain people that we actually get to know in the male population of lorain ohio such as Mr.Henry & Cholly Breedlove. Cholly got the worst end of the stick until we actually get to kno him though.
alright on to the next one -_-
The book depicted men as dirty men that drink lie and do whatever they think is right in their eyes. If that means that they men grew up badly and it effects how they treat the next person then thats is excatly how they feel towards certain people. I do not think they are fair to depict men like that because not all men are like that.
